There are many freelance websites where you can start your career. But choosing the right one is important because you should receive your hard earned money. If you are looking for freelance jobs worldwide and you can’t find a good website to decide, here are the best freelance sites you will want to look at.

Getafreelancer.com was launched in 2004 and is today one of the best sites in the area of online freelancing. Getafreelancer have solutions for all types of projects from web designing to content writing. Getafreelancer supports bank transfer and Payoneer MasterCard, as well as Paypal.

The site is simple to use. If you are searching for a work, you simply use the search function or browse by categories to find specific projects. There thousands of employers seeking to hire. If you want to find freelancers, you can post a project. Just write the job description, its category and your price range.

Employers are charged $5 for the display of a project, but the fee is refunded if you select a service provider with Getafreelancer you'll be able to get a good contractor for a cheaper price than most sites if you're lucky.

Scriptlance.com is another popular and one of the most active sites in the field of freelancing. You can register for free and with no monthly fees. Once you start you’ll find hundreds of projects posted every day and thousands of independent workers competing for them. You can withdraw your winnings by check, Paypal, E-gold or Bank Transfer. The support is good and there is a forum where you can get feedback from other members. The site is very easy to use. Your bids on ScriptLance are visible to other members, unless the buyer has expressly chosen otherwise.

This website has very low fees of only 5% of the project when compared to other freelancing sites. There is a private forum on ScriptLance where you can communicate privately with buyers. Many users use the advice for private offers as if they placed bids. So you can’t rely entirely on offers displayed on the website for pricing of your competitors.

Elance.com is an amazing site allowing you to bid on individual projects. You can choose from several categories, including page designing and graphics. Bidding usually lasts several weeks, that’s why you need to be patient and check the status of your bid often.

The whole process can be very exciting if you have time and patience, but be very careful if you decide to bid on a project because some details are very sketchy. Not knowing what it takes to complete the project, you could get in deep before you know it. Try to contact the buyer by email if you have any questions.

Odesk.com is another freelance site that many users prefer. This site gives both buyers and suppliers the opportunity to hire or get hired.

When you register for an account, freelancers need to pass the first exam preparation before starting to bid on projects. These tests are designed to establish credibility and increase your chances of being hired. Like Elance, you have categories for software development, writing, marketing, administrative and support, etc.

A very cool feature is that oDesk jobs that are paid on time are guaranteed because progress is monitored through the oDesk Team software. This ensures that you get paid for completing projects on time.

Guru.com is one of the most liked sites with more than 400,000 users. Guru gives an easy and organized to use interface featuring two ways to browse all the offers. With the advanced search you can find jobs depending on their location, type and hourly wages. While using the directory insures you to expand your search.

Guru.com will send you an email, like many other job sites, when new listings that match your criteria are added, this feature can be useful, that’s why you should visit and check this site frequently.

When you subscribe to the guru, creating a profile is a must. It should include an overview, a list of your skills and your education, references and experience with a brief description of your ideal concert. You'll need to include all the necessary information if you want to stand out among the 400,000 other gurus.

After completing your profile, you can search for keywords in your headline and description to get an idea about how an employer will see your profile. Guru.com needs to be checked if you are looking for a wide variety of projects.

Computerjobs.com is one of the best resources you might check if you do not mind working on sites with large companies.

You have to be prepared for a long process if you have put your mind in applying for jobs on this site, why? Recruiters usually compromise their intentions through a more complicated and funny selection and interview process.

ComputerJobs.com is and easy to use website with an advanced search functions to find what you want. To set up your resume is quite simple but there are several problems with the system, it limits you to show only eight of your skills. Fortunately e-mails are provided for each job so that you are able to send a more detailed CV.

If you are able to offer consulting services, ComputerJobs.com is your best choice and it allows you to list your services for free. With more than 6000 consultants, you should be unique spin in presenting your services. Overall, this freelance site is a great resource for experienced professionals who are looking for business projects.

Rentacoder.com is specifically aimed at experts in computer programming. However, you can sometimes find marketing and writing jobs, too. A buyer who wants to have a custom software application or a writing project can post on this site his demand and it will be seen by thousands of programmers and writers. The buyer reviews and then chooses his favorite. The cool thing about this site is that freelancers can search and apply for different projects listed.

Affiliate Marketing

This is where you sign up to a site under a referrer and then get other people to sign up under you.  The more people you get to sign up the more money you can make.  The best way to get people to sign up under you is to give your link out to as many people as possible, whether this is through friends or putting it up on your website or on social networking sites.  For every person who signs up under you and goes on to sell something, you will get a percentage of that sale.

We will cover affiliate marketing more in depth in another article but for now, here are some active and current affiliate marketing programs. The following programs pay you 60% commission on every sale. Some will others will pay as low as 5% and there are even some that pay 70% or more under certain conditions. Comparing Freelance Sites

If you have been thinking about becoming a freelance writer you could be on your way to a very lucrative job that you can do from home. Freelance writers are in demand and if you have a good command for the English language, can deliver work on time, and can follow instructions you can be quite successful.

One of the biggest challenges for a new freelance writer is finding work. There are many sites online where you can find people that are looking for people to write for them though. People who run web sites and sell products need writers.

Here are 5 of the sites where people who outsource writing go to find writers and you can go to find work:

  • Elance – Paid and free memberships are available; paid memberships have privileges. Payment is timely and secure and there are many thousands of jobs to choose from.
  • ODesk – Those who work at Odesk can take tests (more than 100 to choose from) to validate the quality of their services. The more tests you take and do well on, the more likely you are to get jobs. The tests cost nothing at ODesk, but other sites often charge to take them. Payments are secure but 10% of earnings from each job is retained by the site.
  • GetAFreelancer – There are lots of jobs on this site but many of them are low paying and you are going to have to spend some time finding the good jobs.
  • Guru – You can have a free membership or a paid membership; some jobs are only available to paying members. You can keep your resume onsite and you can invoice clients directly from the site as well. They pay quickly but remember that the site will take a cut of your earnings.
  • IFreelance – There is no free membership for this site, but a basic membership will allow you to bid on lots of jobs. Some freelancers have found that payment is not as secure as on other bidding sites.

A Few Tips For Those Seeking to Work From Home

When looking for a work at home career you should make sure that all of your ducks are in a row so to speak. Have a quiet place to work with dependable equipment and make sure that you have set blocks of time to work with no distractions.

It can be hard to break into the world of working at home, but don’t under value your skills by accepting an hourly wage that won’t allow you to pay your bills. You may be pleasantly surprised at just how much you can earn just by negotiating base pay, highlighting your skills and providing references. Most of all, when you find a suitable gig don’t overextend yourself with pre-existing obligations. Like in the real world, virtual potential employers don’t want to hear a heap of excuses and will quickly give you the boot if you prove yourself not to be punctual. Allow yourself ample time to prepare a resume tailored for your work from home career, create custom cover letters and keep on applying even after you feel that you have a job in the bag.

A work at home career will need to be charted out with just as much thought as training. Many people think that working from home is easier than working at a office, which is an idea which has been debunked time and time again. First, you will need to establish whether you wish to work as an employee for a company or if you want to be an independent contractor, someone who contracts work at on at-will basis. Whichever path you take, know that under absolutely no circumstances you should not pay for a job. That is not to say that you may have to pay out of pocket expenses for a background check, equipment or training manual. However, paying for access to a job database or getting a credit check from an affiliate is a major red flag signaling a scam or non-existent job.

If you really want to work from home, you need to figure out what your skills are and find career paths which are in demand for said skills. If you previously worked in the medical profession, try looking at medical transcription or being a virtual assistant for a doctor’s office. By large, work at home jobs that require no skills just don’t exist. If you don’t have any practical skills then you should look into taking courses online at a local college or working at a brick and mortar job until you attain some.

Web Businesses You Can Start Today!

That's right! Here are some businesses you can start on the Web right now, today! Some of them will require that you have a website and some don't.

In order for a business opportunity to be listed here, it had to meet certain criteria. First, it had to be something that anyone (over 18) could participate in - we will not list companies that discriminate. Third, it had to be an opportunity with a real product or service for which there is a demand. We did not want to list a bunch of tired old opportunites about how to "Make big $$$ selling rubber stamps".

Below you will find a list of opportunities as well as a brief description of what is offered. Click on the links below to view the opportunities you are interested in. When viewing the opportunities, click on the links to be taken to the website of the company making the offer.

Self Publish E-Books, Newsletters, Reports, etc.

You can make a lot of money by writing and self-publishing your own material, if you are willing to write the books, manuals, reports or newsletters that millions of people across the United States, and throughout the world for that matter, desperately want to buy.

Today, more than ever before, is the age of information.

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, there continues to be an incredible demand for information throughout America and the world. There is an astronomical demand for information packed books, manuals, reports, and newsletters of almost every imaginable kind.

It's really much easier than you might have ever guessed to start filling your bank account with cash from information you possess. People crave information that appeals to their basic needs and will somehow educate or enlighten them. Simply by putting your own specialized information into books, manuals, reports or newsletters, you can start putting a hefty price on information you have no doubt been giving away.

Start Your Own Web Business

Step 1 - You need a good domain name.

This should be something memorable, spelled correctly, and correctly reflect what you are selling. Sites with gibberish names like twitter and facebook hitting it big are extremely rare. Go with what you know. If you're selling antique guitars, then your domain should have the words antique guitars in it. Since antiqueguitars.com is likely taken, you can try .net and .org but you shouldn't bother with .info or any of the other myriad of forgotten extensions.

If you still can't find your name, expand on it. Try qualityantiqueguitars.com or antiqueguitarsshop.com or something of that nature.

There are dozens of registrars available, but most just charge too much to resell from the main ones. My favorites are:

Moniker - Cheapest I've found that was also honest and has been around for years. What you pay now will be what you renew at next year.

Namecheap - A bit more expensive, but free whois if you're doing adult sites or anything else you don't want linked to your name.

Free PositiveSSL and WhoisGuard with Every Domain Purchase

Godaddy - Slight discount the first time, but a pain in the rear to uncheck all the boxes as they try to sell you a dozen more things. Renewals will be at full price.

Now you'll need hosting. Although many of the registrars will offer hosting when you purchase your domain, I am of the mind that we shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket. I prefer to host my domain somewhere that doesn't split their time and resources selling domains as well.

Note that there are free hosts available if you can't afford good hosting, but you lose control of your pages when it's hosted on a freehost. What if they close down? All your work is gone. I feel that in order to be sure I retain control of my pages, it's best to host them myself. Hosting can be as cheap as a few dollars a month to as much as several thousand for sites such as facebook and youtube. It really comes down to what your needs are, and the hosts I will recommend in a moment are known in the industry as being reliable and having the best customer service for those you who don't know ftp from abc :)

Note that many hosts will allow you to pay for multiple months up to a year ahead of time for a discounted amount, but I tend to shy away from year long commitments in case something goes wrong. This is a personal preference however, so do what works best for you and your business.

Be cautious of hosts offering unlimited bandwidth or space and read the fine print of the terms of service as this often causes problems later.

Finally..

Make sure you understand their terms of service and abide by their rules. Most of them are simple and straightforward - No adult material, no spamming, etc. The last thing you want is to set up your site, spend hours and hours promoting it, and then have it shut down!

Step 2 - Choosing a product or service to sell.

Unless you plan to blog about your day or something unmarketable, you will need to either find or create your product or service.

Decide what interests you and then decide how to monetize it. Suppose you are an expert at computers. Well perhaps you should consider selling software, applications, or parts as part of your business.

You will want to choose more than one opportunity for your website! Offer your customers the best values and they will return, time and again. This is another chore that will take some time and effort as you will want to make sure that you are not locked in to any one product exclusively.

Step 3 - Create your website.

If you are tech minded, you can do this yourself with one of many available website designers. There are also many free or inexpensive web templates available across the web. Just look around a bit until you find something that makes you happy. You can also decide to hire a web designer, but this can be costly if you want it done right. Whether you do it yourself, or hire someone, remember less is more. Simple is better.

If you are going to do a blog, even better! http://wordpress.org/download/ and then install it to your webhost, login, and start creating!

Step 4 - Promote your website

More to come..

Step 5 - Monetizing your website (other revenue streams)
